Certain records relating to Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment may receive additional federal confidentiality protections under 42 C.F.R. Part 2, which establishes stricter privacy standards for qualifying SUD patient records than HIPAA alone. These additional protections apply only when required by federal law.
